Passport photo maker crops your photo to an official passport or visa size and gives you a print-ready sheet of copies. It’s free and runs in your browser, so your photo is never uploaded.

How to make a passport photo

  1. Choose the Photo size in the settings panel first, since the crop frame takes its shape from it.
  2. Choose a photo or drop it on the page. The Fit your face in the frame window opens.
  3. Drag the frame to move it, and drag its corners to resize it. Its shape stays locked to the size you picked. Fit your head inside the dashed oval with your eyes near the dashed line.
  4. Press Use this crop. Your photo and the print sheet are made right away.
  5. Press Save or Download. To adjust the crop, press Fit & crop next to the photo.

What the settings do

  • Photo size: the menu includes 35 × 45 mm (used for UK and Schengen photos, among others), 2 × 2 in for the US, 50 × 70 mm for Canada, 33 × 48 mm for a China visa, and a few other visa sizes. Changing it reopens the crop window, because the old crop no longer fits.
  • Download: Photo + print sheet, Just the photo, or Just the print sheet.
  • Print sheet: 4 × 6 in photo paper or A4. Copies are packed onto the sheet, with small gaps between them where there’s room.
  • Thin cutting border: a light gray line around each copy so it’s easy to cut. On by default.
  • File size limit: keeps the single photo under 20, 50, 100 or 200 KB for online forms. The pixel size stays the same and only the JPEG quality goes down.

What you get

The photo is saved as a JPG at 300 dpi, the resolution photo printers expect. A 35 × 45 mm photo is 413 × 531 pixels and a 2 × 2 in photo is 600 × 600 pixels.

The sheet holds as many copies as fit: eight 35 × 45 mm photos on a 4 × 6 in sheet or 32 on A4, and six 2 × 2 in photos on 4 × 6 in or 15 on A4. Print it at actual size (100%), not “fit to page”, so each copy keeps its true size.

What it doesn’t do

  • It doesn’t remove or change the background, so take the photo in front of a plain, light wall.
  • It doesn’t find your face automatically. You place the frame yourself using the guide.
  • It doesn’t retouch the photo or check it against official rules. The oval and eye line are a general guide.

Tips for a photo that gets accepted

  • Stand a little away from a plain, light wall to avoid shadows behind you.
  • Use soft, even light facing you, such as a window, and avoid shadows on your face.
  • Hold the camera at eye level, look straight at it and keep a neutral expression.
  • Rules on head size, background color, glasses and age of the photo differ by country and change over time. Check the official guidelines for your application before printing.

Questions

Is my photo uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser, so your photo never leaves your device.

Can it change the background to white?

Not yet. Take the photo against a plain light wall for the best result.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. Take or pick a photo right on your phone; nothing is uploaded.

What size is a US passport photo?

2 × 2 inches (51 × 51 mm). Choose US passport & visa (2 × 2 in) to get a 600 × 600 pixel photo at 300 dpi.

How many passport photos fit on a 4 × 6 print?

Eight 35 × 45 mm photos, or six 2 × 2 in photos. The tool arranges them for you.

Can I use it for an online application?

Yes. Choose Just the photo and set a file size limit if the form has one. If the portal asks for exact pixels, check them against the photo’s size.

What size is a UK or Schengen visa photo?

Both use 35 × 45 mm. Choose the matching entry under Photo size; the photo comes out 413 × 531 pixels at 300 dpi.

Can I print passport photos at home?

Yes. Choose the A4 sheet, print at 100% on good photo paper, and cut along the thin borders.

Does the face guide guarantee my photo will be accepted?

No. It helps with framing, but acceptance depends on lighting, background and your country’s rules. Check the official guidelines.
