32 × 26 mm, white background.
Spanish rules ask for a recent colour photo of the face, 32 by 26 millimetres, taken from the front against a plain white background. Crop yours here and print the sheet.
The photo for a Spanish DNI or passport is 32 × 26 mm, in colour, against a plain white background. This page crops your picture to that size and lays out a print sheet. It is an unofficial tool and not part of the Policía Nacional or the Ministerio del Interior.
What the rules ask for
- A recent photo of the face, in colour.
- Size 32 by 26 millimetres: 32 mm high and 26 mm wide, the usual portrait reading.
- A plain, uniform white background.
- Taken from the front, with the head uncovered and no dark glasses or anything that makes identification harder.
Where the rules come from
For the DNI, Real Decreto 255/2025 asks for a recent colour photo of the face, 32 by 26 millimetres, with a plain white background. For the passport, Real Decreto 896/2003 asks for the same. Both are published in the BOE. Offices that have a camera can take the DNI photo themselves, so ask your office if you’re unsure.
How to make the photo
- Stand in front of a plain white wall in even light and look straight at the camera.
- Add the photo above. Photo size is already set to 26 × 32 mm.
- Drag the frame so your face is centred and fills most of the height, then click Use this crop.
- Download the 4 × 6 in print sheet and print it at actual size at a photo shop.
Background
The background must be plain white. Retaking the photo against a white wall gives the best result. You can also set Background to White in the settings; it runs on your device, but check that the edges around your hair look natural.

Questions
Is my photo uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser, so your photo never leaves your device.
Can it change the background to white?
Yes. Set Background to White or Light blue. It works best on a head-and-shoulders photo; some official forms still ask for an unedited photo, so check the rules.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. Take or pick a photo right on your phone; nothing is uploaded.
Is this an official tool?
No. Treeet is independent and unofficial. The issuing office decides whether a photo is accepted.
How recent must the photo be?
The rules say “reciente” without a number of months. Use a photo that shows how you look today.
Is the photo the same for the NIE or TIE?
Foreigners’ cards have their own procedure. Check the instructions for your appointment before printing.
