What’s Word?
Microsoft Word’s document format (.docx). Editable text, headings, tables and pictures.
Convert a Word document (.docx) to PDF in your browser, without Microsoft Word installed. Headings, paragraphs, bold and italic text, lists, tables, pictures and links are laid out on clean pages with selectable text. It’s free, and the document is read on your device, so it’s never uploaded.
How to convert Word to PDF
- Click Choose files or drop your .docx files onto the page. Each document becomes its own PDF.
- Conversion starts right away on A4 paper. To use US Letter or A3, change Page size in the settings panel and click Apply to all files.
- Save each PDF from the list, or click Download all (.zip).
What carries over
- Headings. Word’s heading styles, Title and Subtitle become larger bold headings in the PDF.
- Paragraphs with bold and italic text, plus bulleted and numbered lists.
- Tables, drawn as a tidy grid with the text of each cell.
- Pictures stored inside the document.
- Links. Web and email links stay clickable.
- Page breaks you added in Word, so a new section still starts on a new page.
- Quotes. Paragraphs in the Quote and Intense Quote styles are indented in grey italics with a bar beside them.
What changes
The converter reads the content and structure of the document, then lays it out again. It doesn’t reproduce Word’s exact page design, so the PDF will look tidy but not identical to what you see in Word.
- Fonts. All text uses Helvetica, with body text at 11 pt and headings in larger sizes, whatever fonts the document uses.
- Alignment and colours. Text is left-aligned in the normal colour; centred titles, coloured text and highlighting aren’t kept.
- Headers and footers. They’re left out, along with page numbers. Add Page numbers to PDF afterwards if you need them.
- Margins and spacing. Every page has 1 inch (72 pt) margins, and Word’s own margins, line spacing and columns aren’t used.
- Scripts outside Western European languages. Urdu, Hindi, Arabic, Chinese and other scripts are drawn as small images, so they display and print correctly but can’t be selected or searched.
When this tool is the right choice
It suits letters, assignments, reports, notes and forms where the words matter more than the exact design, and you need a PDF quickly on a phone, a shared computer or any device without Word.
When the PDF must match the document exactly, with its fonts, colours, headers and layout, use Word’s own File, Save As (or Export) with PDF as the format, or File, Download, PDF document in Google Docs.
Common problems and fixes
- “Only .docx files are supported”. The file is an old .doc or another format. Open it in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice and save it as .docx first.
- “This document is password-protected”. Remove the password in Word, save, and convert again.
- The PDF is too big for an upload form. Shrink it with Compress PDF, or Compress PDF to 100 KB, 200 KB or 500 KB for a fixed size limit.
- Several documents need to be one PDF. Convert each one, then join them with Merge PDF.

Questions
Are my files uploaded?
Never. Word to PDF conversion runs in your browser, so your files stay on your device.
Can I convert many at once?
Yes. Add as many as you like and download them all as one ZIP.
Is there a size limit?
Only your device’s memory. Long documents take a little longer.
Is the text in the PDF selectable?
Yes, for Western European text. Characters outside that set are drawn as images, so they look right but can’t be searched or copied.
Can I convert a .doc file?
No, only .docx. Save the file as .docx in Word or LibreOffice first.
Why does my PDF use a different font?
The converter always lays text out in Helvetica, so the original fonts aren’t used. For an exact copy, use Save as PDF in Word.
Can I sign the PDF afterwards?
Yes. Open it in Sign PDF to place your signature on any page.
