What’s HEIC?

The photo format iPhones save by default. Small files, but many apps and websites can’t open it.

HEICSmall · Apple only
PNGLossless · transparent

Convert iPhone HEIC photos to PNG, a lossless format that every editor, browser and operating system can open. The conversion runs in your browser, so the photos stay on your device, and there’s no cost or sign-up.

How to convert HEIC to PNG

  1. Click Choose photos, or drop .heic or .heif files anywhere on the page.
  2. Each photo is decoded and saved as PNG as soon as it’s added.
  3. If you need smaller images, pick a Size in the settings panel on the right and click Apply to all files.
  4. Save photos one at a time, or click Download all (.zip). File names stay the same, with a .png ending.

The one setting: Size

PNG has no quality slider because it’s lossless: every pixel is stored exactly. The only choice is the size. Original size keeps the full resolution of the photo. Max 4096 px, Max 2048 px and Max 1080 px scale the longest side down to that limit and keep the proportions. A photo that is already smaller is left as it is, never enlarged.

Scaling down is the easiest way to tame PNG file sizes. A full-resolution iPhone photo saved as PNG is a big file, and 2048 px is enough for most documents, slides and web pages.

When PNG is the right choice

For sharing, emailing or uploading ordinary photos, HEIC to JPG is the better pick. The files are far smaller and nobody will see the difference.

  • You’re going to edit the photo several times. Each save as PNG keeps the pixels exactly, while each save as JPG compresses the picture again.
  • The image goes into design or layout software that you want to feed lossless files.
  • You need a screenshot or a photo of a document with sharp text and flat areas, where JPEG compression can leave smudges around the edges.
  • A form or app asks specifically for PNG.

What lossless means here

HEIC is a compressed format, so some detail was already discarded when the iPhone took the photo. Converting to PNG doesn’t bring that back. What it guarantees is that nothing more is lost: the PNG holds exactly the picture that was decoded from the HEIC.

The PNG is a standard 8-bit-per-channel image. iPhone photos have no transparent areas, so the result is a normal opaque picture; the converter doesn’t remove backgrounds.

Common problems and fixes

  • The PNG files are huge. That’s normal for photos in PNG. Choose Max 2048 px, or use JPG if you don’t need lossless files.
  • A photo won’t convert. The file may be damaged or use a HEIF variant this converter doesn’t support. Re-saving it from the Photos app usually helps.
  • The date and location are gone. EXIF metadata isn’t copied into the PNG. Keep the original HEIC files if you need that information.
  • The page gets slow during a big batch. Each photo is processed in your device’s memory. Smaller batches, or a computer instead of a phone, help.

Privacy

Photos often show people, homes and documents. This converter decodes them with a WebAssembly build of libheif inside your browser, and the PNGs are created on your device. Nothing is sent to a server.

Questions

Are my files uploaded?

Never. HEIC to PNG conversion runs in your browser, so your files stay on your device.

JPG or PNG?

JPG for sharing (smaller). PNG when you need every pixel exact.

Can I convert many at once?

Yes. Add as many as you like and download them all as one ZIP.

Is there a size limit?

Only your device’s memory. Large photos convert in a second or two.

Is HEIC to PNG lossless?

The PNG stores exactly the picture decoded from the HEIC, so no further detail is lost. It can’t recover detail the HEIC compression already removed.

Why is the PNG so much bigger than the HEIC?

PNG is lossless and isn’t designed for photos, while HEIC uses very efficient lossy compression. Pick a smaller Size to cut the file down.

Will the PNG have a transparent background?

No. iPhone photos are fully opaque, and this tool converts the picture as it is without removing anything.

Does the PNG keep EXIF data like date and GPS?

No. The PNG contains only the image. Keep your HEIC originals if you need the metadata.

Can I edit the PNG in Photoshop or GIMP?

Yes. PNG opens in every common image editor, on Windows, Mac and Linux.
