What’s SVG?

A vector image made of shapes, not pixels. Scales to any size without blur.

SVGVector · any size
PNGLossless · transparent

Render SVG vector graphics as sharp PNG images at 1×, 2× or 4× their size, with transparent backgrounds kept. It’s free, needs no account, and your browser does the drawing, so the files never leave your device.

How to convert SVG to PNG

  1. Click Choose photos or drop .svg files onto the page.
  2. Each SVG is drawn and saved as PNG straight away at 2× scale.
  3. Pick a different Scale in the settings panel on the right if you need a smaller or larger image, then click Apply to all files.
  4. Save each PNG, or Download all (.zip).

How the output size is worked out

The starting size comes from the SVG itself. If the root svg element has a width and height, those are used, with units like mm, cm, in and pt converted at the standard 96 pixels per inch. If only a viewBox is set, its width and height are used. If the file has neither, browsers treat it as 300 by 150 pixels, and so does this tool.

That size is then multiplied by the Scale setting. A 24 by 24 icon at 4× becomes a 96 by 96 PNG. To keep within what every browser can draw, the output is capped at 8192 pixels on a side and about 16 megapixels in total, and the scale is reduced automatically when an image would go past that.

What the Scale setting does

  • 1×. The PNG has the same pixel size as the SVG. Good when the SVG was designed at its exact display size.
  • 2× (sharp). The default. Double the size, which looks crisp on high-density phone and laptop screens.
  • 4× (print). Four times the size, for print, slides or anywhere you need a large bitmap.

Fonts, images and other things to check

The SVG is drawn the way a browser draws an SVG used as an image. In that mode the browser doesn’t load anything outside the file: linked images, web fonts and external stylesheets are ignored, and scripts don’t run. Images embedded in the file as data URLs do work.

Text is drawn with fonts installed on your device. If the SVG uses a font you don’t have, a fallback font is used and the text may look different or shift. The reliable fix is to convert text to outlines (paths) in your vector editor before exporting the SVG.

Animations are not captured; you get a single still image. Transparent areas stay transparent in the PNG.

Common problems and fixes

  • “This SVG couldn’t be read.” The file isn’t valid XML, or it isn’t an SVG. Open it in a text editor and check that it starts with an svg element. SVGs copied out of web pages often lack the namespace declaration; the tool adds that for you.
  • The PNG is blank or missing parts. The drawing probably depends on an external image or stylesheet. Embed those in the SVG or flatten the artwork in your editor.
  • The PNG is the wrong size. The width and height in the SVG are set differently from what you expected, or are percentages. Edit them in the file, or rely on the Scale setting.
  • The output is smaller than 4×. The image hit the size cap described above.

SVG or PNG?

Keep SVG for logos, icons and illustrations on websites: it stays sharp at any size and is often tiny. Use PNG when a program, social network, email client or document editor won’t accept SVG, or when you need a fixed-size image for an app store or favicon. If you need to go the other way, PNG to SVG traces a bitmap into vector shapes.

Questions

Are my files uploaded?

Never. SVG to PNG conversion runs in your browser, so your files stay on your device.

Can I convert many at once?

Yes. Add as many as you like and download them all as one ZIP.

Is there a size limit?

Only your device’s memory. Large photos convert in a second or two.

Does the PNG keep the transparent background?

Yes. Areas with no fill in the SVG stay transparent in the PNG.

How do I get an exact width in pixels?

The output is the SVG’s own size times the Scale. For an exact width, set the width and height in the SVG file, then convert at 1×.

Why does the text look different in the PNG?

The font used in the SVG isn’t installed on your device, or it was linked from the web. Convert the text to outlines in your editor first.

Do embedded images in the SVG come through?

Images embedded as data inside the file do. Images linked from another file or a URL are not loaded.

Can I convert SVG to JPG?

Convert to PNG here, then use PNG to JPG, which lets you fill transparent areas with white or black.
