Fit your face in the guide and we crop to 35 × 45 mm, then save a JPG under 20 KB. It all happens in your browser, so the photo stays on your phone or computer.

Pakistan’s online passport service asks for a photo of no more than 20 KB, and that limit trips up a lot of people whose phones take 3 MB pictures. This page sets our passport photo maker to the size published on the e-Services portal: 35 × 45 mm, saved as a JPG under 20 KB. It is an unofficial tool with no connection to the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports.

What the portal asks for

The photograph requirements page on onlinemrp.dgip.gov.pk listed the rules below when we checked in October 2026. Requirements can change, so read that page again before you apply.

  • Size: 45 mm high by 35 mm wide.
  • File: JPG, JPEG or PNG, no larger than 20 KB.
  • Head: between 29 mm and 34 mm, chin to crown.
  • Background: plain white.
  • Age: no more than six months old.
  • Framing: a close-up of your full head and shoulders, with no other people or objects.
  • Face: looking straight at the camera, neutral expression, mouth closed, eyes open and clearly visible.
  • No sunglasses or tinted glasses, no glare on glasses, no red eye and no shadows.

How to make the photo here

  1. Stand in front of a plain white wall in even daylight. Ask someone to take the picture at eye level from a meter or two away.
  2. Add the photo above. The size is already set to Pakistan passport (35 × 45 mm) and the file limit to under 20 KB.
  3. Drag and zoom until your face sits inside the guide, with the top of your head and your chin inside the marked area.
  4. Download the JPG and check its size in your file manager before you upload it.
  5. For a second check, the portal’s requirements page has a photograph verification tool you can test the file with.

Why 20 KB is hard, and how we handle it

A phone photo is usually a few megabytes, which is a hundred times or more over the limit. We first crop to the passport shape and scale the picture to 413 × 531 pixels, which is 35 × 45 mm at 300 DPI. Then we lower the JPG quality step by step until the file fits under 20 KB, keeping the highest quality that fits.

At that size a portrait still looks clear on screen. Fine detail like hair texture softens a little, which is normal for a file this small. If the tool says it can’t reach the limit, the usual cause is a busy background or grainy noise from a dark room. Retake the picture in better light against a plain wall and try again; a clean photo compresses far better.

What the portal warns about

The requirements page also says photos should be professionally taken, should not be cut down from a larger picture, and should not be edited in software such as Photoshop. Read literally, the safest route is a studio photo taken for a passport. Ask the studio for the digital file and use this tool only to bring it to the right shape and under 20 KB.

If you take the photo yourself, frame it close to the final head-and-shoulders shot so very little needs trimming. Don’t retouch, whiten the background or use beauty filters. Our tool only crops, resizes and compresses; it never changes your face or the background.

Prints and other forms

If you also need paper copies, switch Download to “Photo + print sheet”. You get a 4 × 6 inch sheet with several copies and thin cutting lines, ready for any photo shop or a home photo printer.

Other Pakistani forms that ask for a passport-size photo often set their own file limit. FPSC, for example, asks for a picture under 30 KB and PPSC under 25 KB. Check the instructions for the form you’re filling in and change the limit in the settings if you need to.

Questions

Is my photo uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser, so your photo never leaves your device.

Can it change the background to white?

Not yet. Take the photo against a plain light wall for the best result.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. Take or pick a photo right on your phone; nothing is uploaded.

Is this the official passport website?

No. Treeet is an independent, unofficial tool. We follow the sizes published on the e-Services portal, but only the portal decides whether a photo is accepted.

Can I use a selfie?

A selfie taken at arm’s length tends to distort the face and can show part of your arm. Ask someone to take the photo at eye level from a short distance instead.

What background color is needed?

Plain white, according to the portal’s requirements page. A light gray wall can look fine to the eye but may not pass, so use the whitest plain wall you have.

The tool says it can’t get under 20 KB. What now?

This happens with noisy or busy pictures. Retake the photo in good daylight against a plain wall, then try again.
