Pick how to split.
Every page on its own, every few pages, or ranges like 1-3, 4-8. You get a ZIP with all the parts.
Split PDF breaks one PDF into several smaller files: one per page, every few pages, or custom page ranges. It’s free and runs in your browser, so the document never leaves your device.
How to split a PDF
- Choose how to split in the settings panel first. The file is split as soon as you add it, using the current setting.
- Choose your PDF or drop it on the page.
- Each part is saved as its own PDF. Press Save next to the file, or Download all (.zip), to get every part in one ZIP.
- Changed a setting afterwards? Press Apply to all files to split again.
What the settings do
For example, a 30-page application pack split with ranges 1-2, 3-10, 11-30 gives three PDFs: the cover letter, the form and the attachments. A stack of scanned two-page forms split every 2 pages gives one PDF per form.
The Ranges box understands a few shortcuts. “8-” means page 8 to the end, “-3” means pages 1 to 3, and “end” or “last” stand for the last page. A backwards range like 5-1 puts those pages in reverse order, and ranges may overlap.
Each part is named after the original file plus its pages, for example report-p3.pdf or report-1-3.pdf.
- One PDF per page: a 20-page file becomes 20 single-page PDFs.
- Custom ranges: type ranges in the Ranges box, such as 1-3, 4-8, 9. Each range becomes its own PDF.
- Every N pages: set Pages per file (2 by default, up to 500). A 10-page file split every 3 pages gives files of 3, 3, 3 and 1 pages.
What each part keeps
- Pages are copied as they are, so quality doesn’t change and text stays selectable.
- Bookmarks that point to pages inside the part.
- Links between pages of the same part. Links to pages that ended up in a different part are removed rather than left broken.
- Form fields on the copied pages, and the original document’s title and author.
Split, extract or delete?
None of these change your original file. Each saves new PDFs, so you can try a different split as often as you like. If the parts are still too big to email, run them through Compress PDF afterwards.
- Split PDF: you want several files.
- Extract PDF pages: you want one new file with only some pages, such as 1-3, 8.
- Delete PDF pages: you want the same file minus a few pages.
Common problems and fixes
- “This PDF has 12 pages, so page 15 doesn’t exist”: a range goes past the last page. Check the page count and fix the range.
- “Isn’t a page number”: use only numbers, hyphens and commas, like 1-3, 5.
- Nothing in Ranges: with Custom ranges selected, the box can’t be empty.
- “Password-protected” message: remove the password with Unlock PDF first.

Questions
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser, so your PDF never leaves your device.
Can I get just a few pages?
Yes. Use Extract PDF pages to keep only the pages you need in one file.
Is there a size limit?
Only your device’s memory. Even long PDFs take seconds on a computer.
How do I split a PDF in half?
Choose Custom ranges and type both halves, for example 1-10, 11-20. Or choose Every N pages and set it to half the page count.
Why do I get a ZIP file?
Splitting makes several PDFs, so Download all bundles them in one ZIP. You can also save a single part from the list.
Does splitting reduce quality?
No. Pages are copied without re-rendering, so they look exactly like the original.
Can I split a PDF by file size?
No. Splitting works by pages only. To make each part smaller, run the parts through Compress PDF.
Can I keep only the odd or even pages?
Use Extract PDF pages and type the pages you want, such as 1, 3, 5, 7. They’re saved together as one PDF.
Can I split several PDFs at once?
Yes. Add them together and each is split with the same setting. Download all puts every part in one ZIP.
