Sign PDF lets you draw, type or upload your signature and place it on any page of a PDF, without printing or scanning. It’s free and runs in your browser, so your document is never uploaded.

How to sign a PDF

  1. Choose your PDF or drop it on the page. The signature window opens.
  2. Create your signature in the Draw, Type or Upload tab and pick black or blue ink. Then press Next: place it.
  3. The PDF opens on its last page with your signature near the bottom right. Drag it into place, and drag its corner handle to make it bigger or smaller.
  4. To sign other pages, move between pages with the arrow buttons and press Add to this page. Remove from this page takes it off again.
  5. Press Sign PDF, then Save or Download. The file is named after the original with “-signed” added.

Three ways to make your signature

Resizing keeps the signature’s shape, so it never looks stretched.

  • Draw: sign with a mouse, trackpad, finger or stylus. Clear starts over.
  • Type: type your name and choose one of three handwriting styles.
  • Upload: choose a photo of your signature on white paper. The paper is removed and the ink is recolored to the color you picked, so choose the ink color before you choose the photo.

What it does and doesn’t do

  • It stamps your signature as a picture on top of the page, like signing a printout. It goes on every page you choose, at the spot you set.
  • Each page takes one signature. For initials as well as a full signature, sign once, then run the signed file through the tool again with your initials.
  • There are no text boxes, date fields or checkboxes, and it doesn’t fill in PDF form fields.
  • It isn’t a certified digital signature. Nothing proves who signed or whether the file was changed later. Where that’s required, use a signing service that issues certificates.

Tips for a natural-looking signature

  • Draw it big. The pad is wide, and a large signature stays smooth when you shrink it onto the page.
  • Size it to the signature line, about as wide as you’d sign by hand, and rest it just on the line.
  • Blue ink is a simple way to show a signature was added rather than printed with the document.
  • On a phone, turn it sideways for more room to draw.

Common problems and fixes

  • “This PDF couldn’t be opened”: it’s probably password-protected. Use Unlock PDF first.
  • An uploaded signature looks patchy or has gray marks: retake the photo close up, with a dark pen on white paper in even light and no shadows. Or use the Draw tab.
  • You placed it on the wrong page or want a new signature: press Sign next to the file. You start again from creating the signature, and the old placements are replaced.
  • The handwriting styles don’t show: the Type tab loads its fonts when you open it. Wait a moment, or use Draw.

Privacy

Your PDF and signature are handled entirely in your browser and aren’t saved anywhere. When you close the page, they’re gone.

Questions

Is my document uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser, so your document never leaves your device.

Is this a legal e-signature?

It adds a picture of your signature, like signing a printout. For certified digital signatures you need a signing service.

Is there a size limit?

Only your device’s memory. Even long PDFs take seconds on a computer.

Can I sign more than one page?

Yes. Go to each page and press Add to this page. The same signature is placed wherever you add it.

Can I add the date or my initials?

There’s no date or text field. You can add initials by signing the signed file again with a typed or drawn signature of your initials.

Can I sign a PDF on my phone?

Yes. Draw your signature with your finger, drag it into place and download the signed PDF.

Is my signature saved for next time?

No. Nothing is stored, so you make your signature each time you use the tool.

Can I sign a scanned PDF?

Yes. Scanned pages work like any other page; your signature is placed on top of the scan.

Can I remove the signature later?

Not with this tool. The signature becomes part of the page, so keep an unsigned copy of the original.
