Readable, and small enough.

We bring your PDF under 200 KB, inside the 10 to 300 KB range the e-Visa form asks for, while keeping the page as sharp as the size allows.

The India e-Visa form asks for a scan of your passport’s bio page as a PDF between 10 KB and 300 KB, and phone scans are often several megabytes. This page compresses the PDF to under 200 KB. It is an unofficial tool, not part of the Government of India’s visa service.

What the e-Visa form asks for

The e-Visa page on indianvisaonline.gov.in, checked in October 2026, asks for the scanned bio page of the passport showing your photograph and details, as a PDF of at least 10 KB and at most 300 KB. Other supporting documents, such as business or medical papers, have the same 10 to 300 KB PDF limit.

The page also warns that applications can be rejected if documents aren’t clear. So the goal is a file that is small enough and still easy to read. Check the official page before you apply in case the limits have changed.

Steps

  1. Scan or photograph the bio page: the page with your photo, name, date of birth, nationality and expiry date.
  2. If you have a photo rather than a PDF, turn it into one first with our Document scanner, which also straightens and cleans up the page.
  3. Add the PDF above. Target size is already set to under 200 KB.
  4. Download the result and open it. Zoom in on the machine-readable lines at the bottom and your passport number to make sure they’re sharp.
  5. Upload it in the documents step of the e-Visa form.

How we shrink it

If your PDF is already under the target, we give it back unchanged. If not, we first try lossless clean-up, which keeps text exactly as it is. When that isn’t enough, as with most phone scans, we redraw each page as an image at the best resolution and quality that fit under the target.

For a scanned passport page this makes no visible difference, because the page was already an image. The only thing you lose is selectable text, which a scan doesn’t have anyway.

Why 200 KB and not 300 KB

A one-page passport scan reads well at 200 KB, and aiming below the 300 KB maximum leaves room in case the upload counts kilobytes differently. Our next setting up is “Under 500 KB”, which could go over the limit, so stay at “Under 200 KB” for this form.

Other documents in the same form

Business and medical e-Visas can ask for extra documents, such as an invitation letter or a hospital letter, with the same 10 to 300 KB PDF limit. Run each one through this page the same way. For a multi-page document, scan every page into one PDF first with our Document scanner, then compress the whole file. Several pages share the same 200 KB, so each page gets less room; open the result and check every page is readable before you upload.

Tips for a scan that stays sharp when small

  • Scan only the bio page, not the whole open passport with the facing page.
  • Use even daylight and avoid glare on the laminated page.
  • Crop to the page edges so no space is wasted on the table around it.
  • Keep it to one page. Extra pages make the file bigger and aren’t asked for.

Privacy

Your passport scan is compressed in your browser. Treeet never receives the file, which matters for a document carrying your passport number and photo.

Questions

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser, so your PDF never leaves your device.

What if it can’t get that small?

Very long PDFs may not fit. You’ll see the smallest size we could reach; try splitting the PDF first.

Is there a size limit?

Only your device’s memory. Even long PDFs take seconds on a computer.

Is this the official e-Visa website?

No. Treeet is an independent, unofficial tool. Apply only through the official Indian visa website.

Will the PDF still be readable?

For a single passport page, yes. Open the result and zoom in before you upload; if anything looks soft, rescan in better light and try again.

Can the file be too small?

The form asks for at least 10 KB. A one-page passport scan compressed to under 200 KB stays well above that.
